It’s the last sitting week of Parliament and Canadians are scratching their heads wondering where the results from this session may be hiding?
Even without the real relief for Canadian families, seniors and businesses, there’s lots of news to share. I’ll be hoping to make some headlines of my own with a new bill I’m introducing in the House of Commons later this week. Check back here for an update and explainer once it’s all official. But for now, here are the rest of the headlines you should check out:
“Carney underplays U.S. cancellation of 86-year defence partnership with Canada” - Michael Taube (LINK) Hard to underplay such a humiliating national security threat. Does he take this seriously at all? Nobody can tell.
“Toronto child poverty rates rise for third straight year: ‘How can it be acceptable?’” – Morgan Sevareid-Bocknek (LINK) Food prices are skyrocketing. Rent is still too high. Families can’t keep up and they’re cutting back. Did you know that one in four households are now food insecure? Everywhere we look, the data shows that life’s just getting harder.
“Ontario killer remains free, despite board’s fears of ‘significant threat’” – Chris Lambie (LINK) Another day, another outrageous headline about lax catch-and-release laws. What else is new?
“Out on bail, Toronto man charged again with drug trafficking in Sudbury” – Star Staff (LINK) Oh, and another one.
“More people living out of carpool lots” - Jeff Pickel (LINK) A parking lot outside of Cambridge is now home to dozens of RVs, trailers, and tents because people can’t afford to live anywhere else. I don’t think this is the summer camping trip anybody dreamed of after more than a decade of Liberal government.
“Citizen groups, farmers and MPs to protest Alto high-speed rail project on Parliament Hill” – Catherine Lévesque (LINK) People came from across Ontario and Quebec to stand up for their communities and land rights. They didn’t ask for a billion-dollar boondoggle that’ll cut through their properties and fundamentally alter rural living. Thanks for making your voice heard.
“Guelph Chabad hit with antisemitic graffiti for 2nd time, police hate crime unit investigating” – Lauren Kuivenhoven (LINK) Anybody wanna take bets on if the perpetrators will face any consequences? No?
“Toronto police officer killed in operation related to March shooting at U.S. Consulate, source says” – Colin Freeze (LINK) Our deepest condolences go to Const. Pinizzotto’s family, colleagues, and loved ones. There are still lots of questions to be answered about how and why consulates are being attacked on our soil, and what criminal networks are behind these shootings. We’re going to be pushing to make sure there are answers and that Canadians are safe.
“Canada effusively welcomes rejected Somalian referee, before realizing alleged terror ties” – Tristin Hopper (LINK) First the Iranian terrorists. Now this guy. Is anybody at the Immigration Ministry actually trying to do their job – for the World Cup or for anything else?
“Cost of divorce keeping Canadians in unhappy marriages longer, survey finds” – Dorcas Marfo (LINK) Is it ‘till death do us part’ or ‘till debt do us part’? Nobody can tell anymore.
The longer this Liberal Government stays in control the worse it will get.
I hope Canada is not doomed. Much anxiety for the next few generations
